Door County Missing/Endangered Response Team (MERT)
The Door County Missing/Endangered Response Team (MERT) is intended to be a force multiplier when it comes to the investigation of abductions or critical missing person cases. MERT provides a formalized, cooperative response in an effort to quickly assemble and coordinate necessary resources. When there is a MERT activation, members of the Door County MERT will assist in investigating cases related to abducted, endangered, or missing people.
The mission of the Door County Missing/Endangered Response Team (MERT) is to assist Door County agencies in the safe and swift recovery of abducted, endangered, or missing people. Additionally, the Door County MERT will assist in investigating, identifying, and apprehending suspects in abduction cases. The Door County MERT functions as a force multiplier for the agency requesting assistance, while the requesting agency retains overall control of their investigation.
A memo or understanding was signed by the following partners: Door County Sheriff’s Office, Sturgeon Bay Police Department, Gibraltar Police Department, Washington Island Police Department, Door County Emergency Management, and Door County District Attorney’s Office. Team members are represented from areas including Communications, Emergency Management, Patrol, Jail, Investigations, State Patrol, and School Resource Officers.
